300 oyru paid the Inland and Scandinavian 'A' Letter rate from 01.01.1986 until 31.12.1988, so it appears to have slipped through at the old rate two days after the rate change.

The datestamp was in use from 01.07 1988 until the office closd on 30.11.1990 so this datestamp was only in use for a less than 2½ years.

6,50 kr was the 'A' Letter rate to Europe applicable from 15.10.2001 until 01.08.2004 so this letter has been deliberately overfranked.

The cover was sent to myself via a contact in the Faroes. 6 Kr was the 'B' Letter to Europe rate from 15.10.2001 until 01.08.2004.

Due to the greater postal needs in Tórshavn, a new single-circle datestamp was issued on 7 May 1998. The new datestamp (01.25) looked similar to the datestamp issued on 1 July 1988 (01.24) but can be distinguished by the slightly larger lettering on 01.25. The two datestamps were jointly in use from May 1998.

A new single-circle datestamp was issued to the busy post office at Saltangará on 17 February 2003. The older datestamp (27.08) and the newer version (27.09) can be distinguished by their style of lettering, but if the date can be read there should be no problem as the older one was taken out of service when the replacement was issued.

The only other post office known to have received a second single-circle datestamp was Skáli. The older datestamp (30.07) issued in 1988 was last used on 13 April 1999 when it was replaced with a new datestamp (30.08) the following day. The spacing of the letters in the word “SKÁLI” is quite different on the two cancels. Skáli post office closed on 1 February 2008.

New datestamps were issued to 11 of the 12 post offices still operating on 1 March 2017. They are, once again, single-circle cancels, like their predecessors issued in 1988. The lettering, though, is slightly larger and in the style of the 01.25 datestamp issued to Tórshavn in May 1998.

The only post office not to be issued with a new datestamp at this time is the office at Vágar Airport. The datestamp has only been in use since this Post Office opened on 30 March 2015.
