Star Cancel
- Stj
2-ring postmark with name of the office only - and a >>star<< in the centre.
Used by all collecting offices. The star in the middle of the cancel was supposed to be removed by 30 Jul 1929 but often this was not done until weeks or months later.

SMIRIL

Datestamp No. 04.01

Franked with an 1875-1903 8 øre Bicoloured stamp.

8 øre was the Inland Letter rate during the period 01.01.1875 to 30.09.1902, so this stamp may have been used on such a letter.

The SMIRIL cancel was first introduced on 04.01.1896 when a Steamship Collecting Offfice was opened on SMIRIL and remained in use until 1903.

EJDE
Datestamp No. 05.01
Type  Stj
+
THORSHAVN
dated 27-9-1903
Datestamp No. 01.03
Type Bro Ig

Franked with a carmine 10 øre Coat of Arms stamp (SG98).

10 øre was the Inland letter rate that applied during the period 01.10.1902 until 14.10.1919.

Early use of the Edje cancel which was introduced when the Ejde collecting office was opened on 01.07.1903 and remained in use until 20.04.1929.

MIDVAAG
(scripted date 20.02.1928)

Used on a 10 øre (green) stationery postcard.

Datestamp No. 08.01
Type Stj

Although 10 øre was the Inland Postcard rate at the time this card was sent locally to Bo.

The card has no dated transit postmark. This was a practical, if probably informal, method used on Vagar (and elsewhere), for speeding local island mail, rather than sending the mail via the distant superior office (Thorshavn), which was also on another island.

This cancel was introduced when the Miðvágur collecting office was opened on 01.07.1903 and remained in use until 20.04.1929.

The message side is datelined with an oval cased VAAGO * PASTORAT * handstamp, followed by scripted 20/2/28, nicely dating the postcard.

+
THORSHAVN
dated 05.04.1928
Datestamp No. 01.05

The Sand collecting office was opened on 01.07.1903 and this datestamp remained in use until 11.04.1929.

All star-removed cancellors were returned to Denmark by 10 Jun 1953.

The Sand Uds cancel was introduced on 19.12.1930 and used
until 1953.

The Tofte Uds cancel was first used on 26.11.1929 and was last known to be used on 05.12.1952.

The datestamp also ties a Danish 1949 Christmas seal. The card is addressed to Nolso and, as was often the case with Christmas postcards, there is no dated transit postmark.
